Founded in 1951 as the Grantham Radio License School, the institution that evolved into University of Arkansas Grantham initially focused on serving non-traditional students: military service members, working adults, and students seeking to complete their education.
As interest in the institution’s programs grew beyond campus boundaries, the school developed distance education programs to serve a geographically dispersed student body; in 2000 Grantham began offering its degree programs exclusively online, and in 2002, it became Grantham University.
In 2021 Grantham University joined the University of Arkansas System and officially became University of Arkansas Grantham; it is the only institution in the System that offers its entire program catalog via online learning. As part of the UA System, UA Grantham is a stronger institution with greater ability to serve thousands of students enrolled in more than 50 degree and certificate programs.
