Statement from UA System President Dr. Donald R. Bobbitt on the passing of Dr. Mary Ann Greenwood:
“A true pioneer for women in business in Arkansas and across our region, Dr. Mary Ann Greenwood set an example for leadership, integrity and service that leaves a lasting legacy on Northwest Arkansas and the entire state,” said Dr. Donald R. Bobbitt, president of the University of Arkansas System. “Mary Ann’s impact will long be felt in the University of Arkansas System through her generous service and support of both the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She not only recognized the importance of these institutions to her community, but she was also willing to give considerable time and, more importantly, her wise counsel to ensure the success of these campuses for years to come. On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the leadership across the system, I want to extend our deepest sympathies to Dr. Reed Greenwood and the Greenwood family, and to Mary Ann’s many friends and associates who are mourning her loss today. ”
Dr. Mary Ann Greenwood was the retired President and CEO of Greenwood Gearhart Inc., a registered investment advisor, and president of Greenwood Group Ltd., a pension consulting firm. A native Arkansan, she earned a bachelor’s degreenin banking and finance, a master’s degree in economics and a doctorate in economics and finance from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.
Throughout her life, she served as a member of numerous boards, committees and organizations in support of the UA System, including:
- The Board of Directors of the University of Arkansas Foundation, Inc.
- The Campaign Arkansas Steering Committee
- The Dean’s Executive Advisory Board for the Walton College
- The Towers of Old Main
- The Arkansas Alumni Association
