The following are draft policy updates to be presented to the Board of Trustees at its meeting on May 23. The policy amendments below are intended to bring UA Board and System policies in line with Act 184 of 2019, which deals with campus free speech.

• Act 184 of 2019 prescribes parameters regarding freedom of speech for members of the campus community at public colleges and universities in the state. Board Policy 705.1 Use of University Facilities, has been amended to include a reference to the new law to ensure campus policies related to speech by members of the campus community in outdoor areas are consistent with the law. • Additionally, UASP 715.1 Use of University Facilities has been amended to include language related to the provision on student groups in the new law, as well as a new section on the use of outdoor areas of campus for expressive activities by members of the campus community.
