LITTLE ROCK — University of Arkansas System President Jay B. Silveria has issued an open letter reaffirming the UA System’s commitment to academic excellence, affordability, free expression, intellectual diversity, and responsible stewardship in response to a national call to action from U.S. Education Secretary Linda E. McMahon.
In the letter, Silveria outlines how the UA System, which serves students through 22 campuses, divisions, and units across the state, is advancing its mission through strategic pillars focused on educational access, student success, research and innovation, accountability, responsiveness to statewide needs, and collaboration through technology and business innovation.
The letter highlights actions the UA System has taken to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, protect free speech and academic freedom, promote affordability, establish responsible artificial intelligence policies, safeguard research from foreign influence, and align educational and workforce development efforts with Arkansas’s economic needs.
“Strong universities and colleges are essential to the prosperity and security of our state and nation,” President Silveria wrote, emphasizing the UA System’s commitment to maintaining public trust while expanding opportunities for Arkansas students and communities.
